 Most Over Rated Movies?
« Thread Started on Apr 25, 2004, 5:26pm »

Good day.
Just thought I'd get you guys to share some of your opinions of movies that the critics and magazines all raved about- but when you saw it you thought- "Huh?"

Whether you Hated it or liked it- but thought that it just didn't cut the mustard in your book of movie greats- tell us, could be fun- getting some people to argue about their film preferences.

-Oh and I may as well go first. hmm- I have so many to choose from, but I think I'll have to start with -

The Matrix: Reloaded.

Now Im quirte a big fan of Martial Arts films (Jackie Chan yey!) and I do love an action film- whether it has a plot or not. And I really like the original Matrix film- but the sequal- what the HELL is that?

I personally think the fact that Neo can do anything he wants (basically) -including taking bullets from people hearts- just ruined the film for me (though thats not the only thing wrong with the film) The thing that made the first film so good was that the agents were really hard and added a slight fear factor to the film. But as soon as Neo appears (in Reloaded) you know that he will win, easily.
Also the actual fighting is crap- each hit sounds like a slap to the face. What ever happened to REALLY punching each other so the nose bleeds or they get knocked down- rather than a soft straight punch to the face that makes the reciever recoil a bit then back up to accept another one (like when Morpheus is fighting the white guy in the car)

Also the car chase at the end- could that be the worst get away car in the entire world? I mean come on- even the huge juggernaughts were faster than it- not like the stuff you see in a James Bond movie- and the motor bike wasn't that much better either- almost getting crushed by the juggernaught that managed to catch up with it.
And the fight with the hundreds of Agent Smiths- good idea, but wnet on for far too long and the annoying computer generated effects- that should not be used in a decent fight scene.

The whole film seemed to be trying to go off the best bits of the first film- Gun fights, Martial Arts and the groovy running up walls and doing impressive slow motion flips- however in the first film they were really used to help the film along and they seemed to serve some purpose- but these just seemed to be 'fillers'- like the fight against Serif- how bloody pointless was that? -I know they made up an excuse (To see if he was The One- but come on it was boring)
And one thing that could have made it work- would have been some decent fights with Morpheus and Trinity against some 'normal people' and an Agent or Two. I know they both fought agents (Morpheus on the lorry and Trinity in the Security Building thing) But they weren't particularly good- not like the mini fight in the first film between Morpheus and Agent Smith in the toilet.

Also the first film had done most of it before- so it just seemed to be 'old hat' in most scenes- should have thought up better ideas or just left it as a single film.

The Only saving features I can think of that made this film watchable are:
Agent Smith- funny, witty- made the film for me.

The Twins (White guys) - Again added a bit of style and humour to the film- and should really have appeared in 'Revolutions'.

The Maravinchi (no idea how to spell the name- The French dude) - A little bit annoying, but also had some decent lines.

-I must point out that by no means do I class this as one of the worst films I have ever seen- but I feel that it is no way near as good as everybody made it out to be and that it is really just a mediocre film- which could have been so much more. 8-)

End of rant.

i like the fact that trinity dies in revolutions even though neo saves her in reloaded with some freak miracle trick..ironic and its something that neo can't do anything about since its not in the matrix..heaven forbid that something happens which he can't fix...yes, the whole trilogy idea just shouldn't have been done...the first movie was enough..and it didn't even hint at the end of it that there would be a sequel..i wasn't even expecting one..

sorry for spoiling revolutions for anyone who hasn't seen it, but this is the whole deal: neo fights bad man, neo wins (gee big surprise), machines don't get zion, something very strange happens at the end that i have no understanding of. there you have it.

Yeah - it THINK that the whole idea was that somethign like this has happened before- with the machines becoming friends with the humans- and the Oracle and the dude in the white suit were discussing whether it would actually last this time. But I could have that totally wrong- I haven't seen the film for a year or so and I don't really expect to see it anytime soon (touch wood)

I think that the sequals would have worked had they actually done it properly. They could have easliy put Reloaded and Revolutions into one film- cutting out half the shit that filled the 'gaps' and changing the ending completely. -I HATED the final fight between Agent Smith and Neo so much- I was bored straight away.

They seemed to go for the whole confusion thing that films try to do these days- and twist words so taht the audience don't know exactly whats happening- but it makes them think that they do and go 'Ahhh- I see', which also makes them feel superior. But when they try to explain the film they either can't or they say something that completely disagrees with teh other persons view.
Basically good idea (sort of) very badly executed.

Oh and if any big hollywood producers are reading this- I could have totally made the last film better and make more sense. So hire me.
