Ok so I thought I could start you chaps off with some modding ideas/ stories for your lovely Dreamcasts.. so here goes.
Well this isn't really much of a mod- but it is something really easy to do- albeit pretty useless.
Its very easy (as I said), I have managed to have it so that one of my DCs can continue to play games whilst the lid is still open.-Wow amazing! Basically you just unscrew the top half of the DC and looking at the bare curcuit boards of the Dreamcast you should be able to see a very small piece of black plastic at the back of the unit- just right of the GD ROM drive- if you press the plastic, it should move like a button. Basically this is somethinng that is connected to the Lid opening switch on the top of the DC and once triggered it resets the console (like when you open the drive door) But if you just use a piece of sellotape and tape it down, the button will become useless and you can now play games with the drive door open!
Like I said it is pretty useless- unless if the 'catch' on the Dreamcast lid is broken and you need to hold it shut with a shoe- then this could be very handy.
Also (I don't know how this happened) the DC I did this on was abit dodgy. My original intent was to try and see if I could find any loose wires or something as the machine kept resetting iteslef or crashing halfway through the games- sometimes it just wouldn't get past the DC logo before resetting itself. But by taking the machine (virtually) to pieces (though some bits I didn't touch) and this includes removing the GD Rom drive. I magaed to fix the machine- I don't know how- but now it works! -Though maybe it had something to do with me taping down the lid reset-opener switch thingy. hmm.
By the way- taping down the switch opener will not help you to play games from other regions that have more tan one disc. This was my original intention- I have a boot disc- which is fine when the game is only on one disc, but when I had to change discs it went back to reading in PAL format. Which is why I originally tried to make th DC think that the lid hadn't been opened- but the only way to place a new disc on is to slow down the spinning drive- with your finger - and making it slow down causes the drive stop spinning completely. So it doesn't work- but worth a try if you think you can do it.
Well if you have any comments/questions or other DC modding tips- please feel free to write on this thread- cheers

I don't know why, but I thought it was hilarious when thinking about holding the lid down with a shoe. I pictured some old stinky basketball shoe just chillin' on top of a ghetto DC.!

Lol- well I was thinking more of a business man coming home removing his suit jacket carefully placing it on a hanger. Wacking Crazy Taxi into his DC - then removing one of his shiny black suit shoes and carefully placing it on top of the DC as he switches it on.
